Shelby County Books from Birth Young children in Memphis are divided like continents by the oceans of race, poverty and crime. They live in such different worlds that it's hard to see unity in their future. But on doorsteps grand and shabby alike today arrived a harbinger of hope. All across Memphis tonight these very different children will embark on identical journeys through books from the Imagination Library. Sponsored locally by Shelby County Books from Birth, the Imagination Library provides free, age appropriate, hardcover books - one per month - to children under age five who register to participate. All children under five are eligible. Over the next three years, Shelby County Books from Birth will reach more than 45,000 children and secure funding in excess of $2 million.
